The benefits of a workcation

At villa X we work hard to make sure you can have a stress free vacation. But we have also noticed the positive effects of this place on an everyday work life - that's why we want to tell you about the options of taking a workcation. This year we have been forced to spend a lot more time in Denmark and work from home, compared to what we had hoped and planned. We try to switch it up - sit on the floor, stand up, take walking lunches or walking meetings. But it does get quite uninspiring in the end. So we tried a different aproach: we borowed a camper van and took our home office on the road! We drove where the weather looked nice and we were rewarded with great motivation to be efficient, different views and lunchtime walks. Outdoor meetings with new inspiring people and the most amazing sunsets and content for our instagram account :-)

"SO, what is a workcation? You might ask. As the word suggests it is work and vacation combined - a working holiday. A new chance to combine the benefits of a vacation with your everyday worklife"

Last year in March we proposed the idea of taking your work on the road and "work from your home away from home", little did we know that 2020 would be the big year of working from home, During this last year we have all been forced to find alternative ways of working and working together. We have made sure our house is equipped with good wifi, to make sure you can stay connected, workspaces that make it possible to have a meeting or a private phonecall and common spaces to be inspired by other digital nomads. We are also aware of the benefits of getting out of your usual surroundings, a change in weather and new options of moving your body and getting out of your head.

"With a fresh new perspective aided by a change of scenery, productivity is potentially more likely to increase, along with higher efficiencies, greater problem solving and an improved manager/employee relationship." - thehrdirector.com

A workcation can be a trip as a team to solve a certain problem or to focus on teambuilding and create a common refrence and a new familiarity with colleagues and management. It can also be a way to get away from dishes, laundry and common everyday distractions and emerse yourself in a job and to network with others, connect and be inspired. The advantage of going away and paying someone else to clean and cook, is that you can really truly focus on the job at hand.

"there are imortant things to consider when thinking about a workcation: working from home can be difficult excactly because it is a home - not created for the purpose of work. This is why your workcation spot should be equipped for workpurposes, make sure you can sit well, that you have good wifi and that you can have enough privacy to do your job"

As an employer also consider what you want from the workcation and the employee taking it. If you think the workload is negatively impacting your worker - mybe an acctual vaction would be better, but if you think a different focus could come from a change in location the benefits of a workcation can be plenty - and we would love to help!
