Happy birthday Villa X - 2 years!

It's hard to belive it's 2 years already and at the same time it's hard to belive it's only been 2 years! Last year we wrote a blog post entitled "not the first year we expected!" and we could have given this one the same headline. But come to think of it - we can probably write that on every single year from now on - good or bad. Part of what we love about life in Tamraght is the unexpected opportunities and new people we meet all the time. Planning is overrated.

We have been lucky enough to have guests staying at Villa X throughout the pandemic. We had to adapt to the situation. Think less retreat, holiday, short-term stay and more accomodation, remote working and a safe cozy place to do lockdown. And we have had some fun, colorfull, passionate, friends for life people living at the house.

Last year around this time, the optimism was back in full force and we started planning our second New Year’s retreat! People were booking and we could not have been more excited. On Christmas eve however we got the message that Morocco had banned travelers from Denmark!!! Meaning our guests could come – but we could not. We had to cancel our retreat.

After two days of being depressed and a lot of mixed messages from Morocco, we decided to try our luck at going anyway. Cami and Amanda made it all the way to Agadir, but Louise was sent back from Amsterdam – once again, we were separated by corona, what a shit-show! The ban stuck for six months until the summer.

In October we were finally all back in the villa together for the first time in 19 months!!! And WOW! Did it feel good to open our doors to our small group of retreat guests again! They were killing it in the waves, surfing with Shaka, we had an amazing day hiking in the anti atlas mountains with Amazigh hike & yoga. A foggy sunset in the sand-dunes, turned in to the most beautiful moonrise, right on the day of the full moon. Spontaneous rooftop dance-breaks and and a roadtrip to Imsouane made the week even better than we had planned. Our guests were just the best and we are already hoping they will come back and join us again! We have had so many messages from people who want to come on the next retreat, and we can’t wait to have you here!

We had to take stock to see if we still had everything in the house. We had to buy A LOT of new plants. We still want to upgrade the sofas on the rooftop and some of the beds, but I guess you will never be finished when you have a place like this – there is always something to do, to fix, to improve – that is part of the fun!

But much like last year corona has something to say. Morocco has announced that travelers have to be fully vaccinated to enter. Some airlines are cancelling tickets, and Morocco has closed direct flights to a number of countries. One being France. That is very bad luck as we had a full house over Christmas and New Years for our best friends’ wedding. That is now cancelled, as all the guests were French. It feels a little like déjà vu, but we will have to make the most of it.

As we are writing this blog we've recieved breaking news that Morocco has closed it's airborders for two weeks. That means no flights in or out for the next 14 days. So If you are waiting for us to announce our next yoga surf retreat – We promise: IT IS COMING! We just don’t want to jinx it and we are also trying to monitor the situation a little bit so that when we announce, and you hurry online to buy your ticket, there will actually be tickets available. But reach out if you are interested. We don’t mind sharing our hopes and our plans are not that secret.
